Our Story
In 1994, Steve Braykovich and Roy Howard founded Axsys Inc. as a distributor of PC-based Mastercam software and Unix-based CIMLINC software in Michigan. The Mastercam product met the majority of our customers’ standard machine and application needs. The CIMLINC product enabled us to meet the needs of customers who required greater capability in the design, production, and inspection of large, complex molds, dies, and fixtures, as well as product and tool design requirements.
Steve Braykovich had come from Unix workstation manufacturer and CAD/CAM software developer CIMLINC after 12 years of employment in positions ranging from application engineer, custom software development, sales, and sales management, with a final position of Director of Product Sales and Marketing. Roy was the sales manager of the local Mastercam office serving the State of Michigan.
Over the years, we have represented a wide range of CAD/CAM software products to meet the manufacturing requirements of nearly every
industrial market segment and application. Delcam International, Parametric Technologies (ProEnginner), and Siemens/Unigraphics are among the companies offering these products.
In 2009, after experiencing a significant downturn in revenue related to the automotive, aerospace, and consumer products vertical markets, we established Axsys Dental Solutions. The dental industry was in the early stages of adopting digital dentistry at the time (and continues to be so to this day). We saw the dental market as an opportunity to leverage our core competency into a growth market that would not only protect Axsys Inc. in difficult economic times but also provide a path to significantly grow our business.
We quickly established ourselves as the leading authority in digital dental manufacturing, providing CAD/CAM software, CNC milling machines, consumable products, training, and service to dental labs, milling centers, and dental practices for the design and manufacture of a diverse range of dental prostheses. Today, our annual revenue has increased by more than 15 times.
Today, Axsys Inc. distributes CNC Software’s CAD and CAM technology through their Mastercam product, the world’s leading CAM software. We also offer additional, related software modules from other software publishers, as well as CMM inspection arms and inspection and validation software.
Axsys Dental Solutions offers CAD & CAM software, 3D & intraoral dental scanners, 3-D printers, CNC machining centers, and consumable products from market leaders such as 3Shape, Exocad, HyperDENT, Dekema, Arum, and others to dental labs, milling centers, and practices.
Based on our extensive experience in digital manufacturing, we add value to our customers by crafting the most effective solution to meet their application and business objectives at the point of sale, as well as providing the necessary training and on-site and off-site support to ensure rapid and effective technology implementation.

For our robotic disc handling system, a crucial component of Axsys’ Digital Dental 2.0 suite, we are honored to have won the 2020 JDT WOW! award. The loading and unloading of puck materials is automated by this unique, reasonably priced collaborative robot, increasing spindle time and machine utilization. It can operate continuously for up to 24 hours, ensuring smooth productivity with almost any machine.
In 2024, we received a second award in recognition of our ongoing excellence and innovation. Axsys Technical Educational Services has launched two programs through our Virtual Academy, utilizing over 800 man-years of experience in industrial digital manufacturing. In addition to our conventional classroom training, these special programs provide CAM and machining training specifically designed for the dental community, allowing for incremental skill development remotely from home, the office, or the lab.
